The Club

Here's a non-stumper puzzle.  We may have had similar questions before, but we are unable to find them searching our archives...sooo...Estimated difficulty level: Easy to Moderate

1)      She pulled a harpoon out of her dirty red bandanna, and it was an experience to hear him sing the national anthem.   Born within 2 months of each other, they both died  members of an exclusive “club”.  Name both of them.

2)      This scleroglossan royalty was born a year following the two in #1, but he was also a member of the same “club”.

3)    When this fourth individual blew out his brain, all the little girls they cried like rain.  Some people include him as a member of this club, but others don't.  He met the technical requirements, but there is evidence he wanted his name to be associated with the others.  And no one really wants to encourage copycats.

4) One only has one life to live.  Unfortunately, this possibly additional member of the club, an actor, not a singer, died in 2003 – just a few short months prior to the release of his directorial debut.  Name the actor, and the film he directed.  (It's not known whether or not he wanted to be associated with the musicians.)

5)   If you take the length of #4’s directorial debut in minutes, multiply it by 2, and subtract 1 -- then take that result and subtract his age when he died, what’s your result?

hum I think I'm getting somewhere atleast on one if those are the words to "Me and Bobby Mcgee" so I'm guessing it's the singer of that song, but u got to realize there are several singers of that song

so atleast tell me if i was right on the "me and bobby mcgee" part

We will confirm there are some words in that clue that do appear in "Me and Bobby McGee." Whether or not that is a coincidence we aren't saying. But taken as a whole, there are only 4 people who fit all the clues above. We're willing to gamble on that.

It should be stated that there are more than 4 members of this club. We don't want to imply these are the only ones,

I thought there were words like that in "me and Bobby Mcgee" (the version I know is by Willie Nelson in the 70's) I think it goes like (don't qoute me I don't have the song here, I have it at home so I will revise later: Pulled a red balloon out of her dirty red bandana and was holding fast while Bobby sang the blues... Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose. Nothing ain't worth nothing, but it's free. Feeling good was easy when Bobby sang the blues. Feeling good was good enough from me. Good enough for me and Bobby Mcgee"

We're pretty sure its a harpoon, not a red balloon.

hey nobody here's another challenge that you can do just for fun how are Julia Roberts and Kent Shelton Related in 2 degrees. I don't know how to word this different so there might only be one answer, but I belive there will be only one answer regardless. If not I'll try to word it differen so you get what I was thinking of

scleroglossan, that is a very interesting term is that a real person? Cuase he is the definition of a scleroglossan. A scleroglossan: Heloderma suspectum, the Gila monsteróone of only two venomous lizards. well beyone figuring out the words to Me and Bobby Mcgee, and finding this interesting fact I'm not getting very far on this one

unless it's a non-famous actor I think it either has to be John Ritter, and Gregory peck the only famous actors who died in 2003 that I've found so far. I don't think John ever directed though, so now I'm looking a Gregory biography hoepfully i get something
Submitted by ryan poole at 3/9/2005 7:09:49 PM
I take that back John Ritter was a co-producer of Man of the Year, however unless i'm told differently that can't be it because that movie was out by 2002. Almost a year before he died. So it must be someone I overlooked, or someone not as famous. Lol I bet if you gave a hint of the club it would be easy hunh? oh well I'm going to try and get u to tell me an hint of it anyway

Kent Shelton was in Black Knight (2001) with Helen Carey
Helen Carey was in Pelican Brief, The (1993) with Julia Roberts

It's always useful when crafting "Degrees of Separation" challenges to see what the Oracle of Bacon has to say on the matter. That way, if they provide the link, you know it won't be a challenge, and if they provide a different link, you can phrase it in such a way as to exclude their results.

We relented. We added a hint by adding a person. And making it very easy to find that person.

oh thanks for the link nobody know I will be able to phrase it different. so here you go connect Julia with Kent in 2 degrees. hint: don't you just hate when I don't give you Credit for ur corect answers

oh by the way did you figure out the movie in 2004 that had an all cast playing themsslves. Well I better get back to eating my JELLO if you haven't figured it out.

here's one more hint on the all cast. One might say the movie sounds like Message in a bottle, however you better not make to much Thunder about it, because they are two very different movies.

Fin'ly got around to looking at this.

I know you know I know the answer of the first 2 (I'm assuming, of course, that scleroglossan refers to a particular type of reptile, or reptiles in general).

The third's death day is 4/5/94.

And the answer to the 4th is 0. Zero. If I did my maths correctly.

Yes. We knew if you had any difficulty, it would be with the last. We suspect it might be an age thing...though the first 3 did die when we were an infant, and we were actually never big a big fan of the fourth, and saw the fifth on tv only once or twice. (Though another popular actor who has been compared to the fifth, and who blogged about the fifth's death -- we saw many many times on television)

    Since when are you British?
Submitted by Christy at 3/16/2005 10:31:06 AM
LOL. Like the word "whilst" I've always thought "maths" a great word.

    Why you try?
Submitted by nobody at 4/14/2005 9:26:08 PM
Because those who don't try, never succeed?

(Considering SWIII is a month away, we guess we could have said, 'there is no try', but that would have just been way too geeky)

    Why you not try?
Submitted by Jennifer Roy at 4/16/2005 4:34:03 PM
What about those that do try and fall short?
Submitted by nobody at 4/17/2005 8:05:34 PM
They can try again, but playing it 'safe' and risking nothing yields nothing in return.
